2023 Civic Pride Small Grant Recipient
The Merton Giving Civic Pride Grant has had a profound impact on our Saturday Soup Caribbean Heritage Project, enabling us to expand our reach to Raynes Park, Colliers Wood, Mitcham, and Wimbledon. Through this support, we’ve been able to offer workshops on African Caribbean culinary heritage, serve traditional Caribbean cuisine, and explore our cultural legacy through dance. The project has brought people together, fostering a sense of belonging and community pride. The smiles on participants’ faces reflect the caring and supportive environment we’ve created, thanks to the generosity of Merton Giving

Hearts and Minds
The Covid-19 crisis has brought uncertainty and anxiety to us all. But for many young people already struggling with mental health issues, this has been a hugely distressing time. Social isolation became the norm as lockdown was enforced, and the usual services and support were no longer available.
Merton Giving provided funding to Hearts & Minds, a charity for 14-to-25 year olds experiencing mental health difficulties. The funding enabled them to reach out to as many young people as possible by providing online groups sessions, 1-2-1 peer support mentoring and online advice on mental wellbeing.
Sustainable Merton
Many families are going hungry, meanwhile a huge amount of fresh food goes to waste every day. The idea behind Merton's Community Fridge, a long-term initiative by Sustainable Merton, is to tackle both issues, redistributing surplus goods to those in need.
As the country went into lockdown, more people than ever needed help to get basic food supplies. Sustainable Merton looked at how to fast-track development of Merton’s Community Fridge so that it could meet this growing demand.
The charity applied for a grant from Merton Giving to provide three months’ running costs so it could move quickly and Merton’s Community Fridge opened at Morden Baptist Church in May 2020, providing food parcels, with perishable and non-perishable goods.
